Animal welfare

How to report your concerns about an animal’s welfare.

If you are concerned about animal abuse, neglect or abandonment, you should contact authorities as soon as possible. You will need to provide certain information including the date, time and address of the complaint as well as the details. The following organizations have authority under Animal Protection Act of Alberta or the Criminal Code of Canada  to step in and help animals in distress. Please note their authorities are regionally specific.

Things that can be considered neglect include inadequate food, including but not limited to starvation or malnutrition, lack or inadequate water, lack or inadequate shelter, including protection from injurious heat or cold, lack of veterinary care, lack of space or ventilation, including unsanitary conditions. These organizations can also investigate abandonment of an animal.
